Greening the desert - permaculture in Jordan
Can dry, salted, desert land be transformed into a forest of fruit? The Dead Sea Valley Permaculture Project did just that.

geofficon Experts from the Permaculture Research Institute worked with local farmers to take a 10-acre parcel in Jordan and turn it into a sustainable agricultural site, with fig, pomegranate and guava trees and date palms. Winter barley and organic onions were also added.

Eco-fashion: behind the scenes, II
Well, I managed to turn in a fairly good performance at the EcoPetal Fashion Show, not as a model on the runway, but as a coordinator of the model lineup! -- Making sure everyone was in the correct outfits, in order, and getting on the runway in time. It doesn't seem too complicated, but in the rush of a show, it gets a little stressful.

It all went smoothly though, and my reward was getting some organic wine, vegan cookies and fun networking time with some LA greenies.

I'll admit feeling a little intimidated by the offer to help out at LA's first eco-fashion week.

I'm not very fashionable. Generally speaking, I look fairly well-groomed most of the time, but the fact is, I grew up in Jersey in the 80s. You just can't escape that kind of fashion conditioning. And now I basically shop at Kohl's and Goodwill. (The Goodwill shopping is at least *green*, but it's not trendy, retro, thrift shop green. ;)
